Through out the Bible, God informs us that our works are useless. The get us nothing. They might make us feel better about ourselves but when it comes to the soul it means nothing. Our so called “righteous acts” are covered in sin. In the end we want credit, we even look to God and say look what I did. The problem with this is that when we do that did we really do it for God or did we do for our on vindication. Lets look at Isaiah 64:6
We have all become like one who is unclean,
and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment.
We all fade like a leaf,
and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.
(Isaiah 64:6 ESV)
Isaiah is telling us what our deeds look like to God. Except the English translation has watered it down a little. In Hebrew its actually a lot worse and makes me cringe. Along with that it puts a new light on my works and my sin. The meaning behind the words polluted garment is actually understood as a menstrual cloth. Yeah I know right. Messed up. But now look at that in the light of your good works. Our Righteous deeds are like a menstrual cloth. Just to make a point the only way to salvation is by complete surrender to Jesus Christ because our works are a failure because of our nature of sin.
