Standing the cooler today putting away yet another truck at Walmart, I was thinking about Job. Thinking about all the stuff he had gone through. He lost his kids, wealth, and health. His wife told him to curse God, His friends told him to repent for a sin that he had not committed. He went through all these trials but never blamed Satan but instead looked to God as a godly man should. Job was going through a trial, his faith was going to be tested by fire one might say. But yet Job did not sin against God. If you just heard a summary of the story, some would say look what that dirty rotten devil did to that man. He destroyed him, and look God restores him in the end. And you would in a way be correct in reacting that way. Here is the thing though trials are not brought on with out Gods knowing. Satan doesn’t run around on earth trying to screw up peoples lives. He like every other creation is under the sovereign will of God. To see an example of this look at Job 1:6-11
“6Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan£ also came among them. 7The Lord said to Satan, “From where have you come?” Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.” 8And the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil?” 10Have you not put a hedge around him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. 11But stretch out your hand and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face.” 12And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your hand. Only against him do not stretch out your hand.” So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.
God gave Satan permission to bring this trial to Job, but he could not kill him. That was the one thing that Satan could not do. God was exercising control over Satan. Satan went and did his thing, God in the end got the Glory when Job did not budge.
A lot of times we want to blame Satan for our circumstances. But the reality is that Satan is under the sovereign will of God. God knows what is going to happen, nothing surprises Him. Now and I saying look up and shake your fist at God no, Job did question God to try and understand his trial. So when a trial comes are you looking to God to see maybe where your faith needs building, where maybe there is sin in your life that needs to be checked on. Always pray during these times, asking God to not only bring you comfort but strengthen your love and faith for Him, along with taking any impurities out of your life.
