The challenge ahead Part 2

As I said in part 1 of this blog I was taking a look at the book of Deuteronomy and specifically chapter 6 as it outlines the things that a dad should be doing to spiritually lead his family. So moving forward with this lets take a look at the next part of the passage.

“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
(Deuteronomy 6:4-9 ESV)

This passage has a  straight effect on us, but also what we should be teaching our children. We should be teaching them the laws of God. We should be teaching them  the way that God wants us to live. The most important lesson in this passage is of course one of the most quoted verses in history. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. This is straight forward because if we are doing this then we will be reaching out to God, clinging to Him, and following Him. Not only this but we will be true disciples of Christ.

As you as I have already mentioned that God is straight forward in the fact that we should be teaching our children through His word.  Its points out we are to follow God at all times learning his word, by putting it in every portion of our lives. The challenge ahead for fathers is the idea that we have to be leaders in our house, leading through Gods word, making it important that we are trying to live by God’s word.
