The Challenge Ahead Part 3

So here we are heading into part 3 of this break down of Deuteronomy chapter 6.  I hope you have gotten something out of the last two posts. As its says in the Word, that God’s Word does not return void.

But moving into this section we will be looking at Deuteronomy 6:10-19. As usual I use the ESV Bible.

“And when the LORD your God brings you into the land that he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you—with great and good cities that you did not build, and houses full of all good things that you did not fill, and cisterns that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant—and when you eat and are full, then take care lest you forget the LORD, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. It is the LORD your God you shall fear. Him you shall serve and by his name you shall swear. You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are around you—for the LORD your God in your midst is a jealous God—lest the anger of the LORD your God be kindled against you, and he destroy you from off the face of the earth.
“You shall not put the LORD your God to the test, as you tested him at Massah. You shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies and his statutes, which he has commanded you. And you shall do what is right and good in the sight of the LORD, that it may go well with you, and that you may go in and take possession of the good land that the LORD swore to give to your fathers by thrusting out all your enemies from before you, as the LORD has promised.
(Deuteronomy 6:10-19 ESV)

This passage is reminder to us as people that we are to Praise God for the things we have. This includes our children. Though we have may played a pivotal role in making of our children. It was God who chose to bless us with our children. They not of our own making. That even when we are head deep in bills, diapers, exhaustion. We will still praise God for our Child. Because God chose to give us that baby. In turn as our Child grows they will see our devotion to God, and the fact that no matter the circumstances we choose to praise God instead of turning away from Him. This also means we will not turn to idols during these difficult times. Sacrificing our time with God or our family for Sports, Electronics, jobs, money, Porn, Ect. As Men of God we are called to be the leaders of our family, and if we are head deep into worshiping or devoting our lives to other things, we are failing to lead our family in a Biblical manner. The final thing is we are not to test God. people are always saying God if you give me this, I will do this. God owes us nothing. We owe God everything.  If our kids see us looking for entitlement from God, they will do the same.

So just remember the old saying Monkey see, monkey do. If our children see us glorifying God, praising Him, and honoring Him. They will follow suit.
