Be Still, and know that I am God

“Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
   Psalm 46:10 ESV

I think there is a deeper thought to this verse. We always think of it as the verse that says everything is okay and my problems are going to be handled because He is God!! Well if I was to ask you who God is to describe him to me, I might get some weird looks and I might get some good Bible answers. But why is it as a majority of Christians that we don’t know God, in the sense of trying to know him deeper.

I think a lot of it comes back to us being humans and even though we are saved we are far from perfect, we still sin and battle our hearts daily. We are mainly self-centered. That is why if you asked people if they had a choice to pick between two seminary classes one called knowing the God of Abraham and the other the Bible and your finances ,  Guess what most would choose the finances class. Because it applies to us, it intrigues our interest because it deals with us in today’s world. I’m not saying these classes are a bad thing, but honestly how can we understand how God wants us to handle our money if we don’t know who God is?

It’s crazy to think that most Christians today couldn’t even describe the very nature of God. He is merciful, judge, loving, slow to anger. These are just a few. If you flip to the very first line of the Bible and want to see how important knowing God is look at the very first four words.

“In the beginning, God”
Genesis 1:1 ESV

Our very creator, God was there commanding light to come forth with just words. I know I can make a light come on by clapping my hands with those clap on clap off things. But with words he created the earth, the heavens, the sun, the moon, stars. Yet we can’t don’t even take the time to get to know Him through His word. You know the Jews in the Old Testament when they saw God, they fell flat on their face as if dead. Why because they knew Him. They knew He was holy. I’m pretty sure Christians today if they saw God, they would be like what’s up. We have a lack luster view of God. Because we have made him more appeasing to the eye of the culture. How can we grow, teach or preach or even write blogs, How can we do any of these things if we don’t take the time to seek the very face and nature of God through prayer and scripture? Once we do these things we will understand why He will be exalted among the nations and earth, and why we should know that He is God.

As always thanks for reading.
