Sermon Notes 5/21/17 Gary Yochum

Becoming like Jesus the goal of discipleship

11 And he himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, 12 equipping the saints for the work of ministry, to build up the body of Christ, 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of God’s Son, growing into maturity with a stature measured by Christ’s fullness. 14 Then we will no longer be little children, tossed by the waves and blown around by every wind of teaching, by human cunning with cleverness in the techniques of deceit. 15 But speaking the truth in love, let us grow in every way into him who is the head—Christ. 16 From him the whole body, fitted and knit together by every supporting ligament, promotes the growth of the body for building up itself in love by the proper working of each individual part.
Ephesians 4:11-16

Its everyone role to be involved in discipleship.
Gods Plan for Discipleship
God ordained Leaders
1. Special leaders (prophets, apostles)
2. Evangelists (specially gifted in sharing the gospel) (All of us are called to evangelized)
3. Shepherds and Teachers (God gave us these people to build up the church)
False doctrine is always trying to get in. Ministry of the word should always have first priority in the church
God Provided servants
Every member is equipped for a reason. (we serve for the sake of the Gospel)
The long term objective is to build up the body of Christ.
What service are you providing to build up the body of the church?
Every member has a role in the church
Working towards the same goal
1. Includes every member (until we all obtain the goal)
2. Speaks to a common belief.
If someone who hasn’t seen you in 2 or 3 years would they know that you have grown?
We never reach perfect to reach perfect maturity this side of heaven.
As each of us become stronger  the church becomes stronger
Each of us have a stake with each other.
Relationship with each other is a must
Speaking the truth in love.
All hands on the plow no one can be left behind.
each part being used
everyone needs to be involved, no bench sitters.

5 ways to see if growth is happening
1. when we are all taking on our responsibilities
2. Truly reunited with each other
3. we hold fast to sound doctrine
4. Act loving to each other
5. We all do our part.

What part are you playing?
